Walter is a 5 1/2 year male IG who was turned into rescue when his owner had to move out of state and could not take him with her.
Walter is one of the sweetest IGs ever! He knows his name and also answers to "Wally." Walter has a sweet disposition, rides well when crated in the car, and gets along with other non-dominant small dogs. He is playful, alert, and full of energy during the day. Wally takes correction well and wants to please. He loves walks around the neighborhood, exploring anything available to him in the home. He will cuddle with you and enjoys being under a blanket, typical IG behavior. Walter was hesitant to eat at first and he is rather picky when it comes to food. He doesn't beg for food and isn't much into treats, though he will take a treat if it smells right to him! Walter has been with a kitten in his foster home, and he loves to play with the young cat. Walter sleeps through the night but is ready to go out to potty early in the morning. He should be let out or walked mid day. We've been working with him on potty training and not marking. He is doing well, but he has been wearing a belly band inside the house. Now that he's neutered we are hoping he can do without. He hasn't been around children since we've been fostering, but he is very friendly with other people who have visited our home. He would probably do well with respectful children over age 5.
Walter has mild mitral regurgitation associated with mild thickening of the mitral valve of his heart. There is a 50/50 chance that he will develop heart issues in his future. At this time he is at low risk. Walter will need to have a special dog chew that contains all the supplements that benefit certain cardiac diseases, daily fish oil supplement and a diet low in sodium.
Walter is up to date on his vaccinations, neutered and recently had a dental. If you want to give this handsome boy a place in your heart and heal his heart, please contact Dawn Ruotolo
